The Night Watch

The Night Watch is the Watchers’ coming of age ceremony. Each year, the Council of Ten selects young people it feels are ready to fully join the ranks of the town’s citizens. The list is announced during the midwinter celebrations. The following mid-summer, the chosen boys and girls must spend a night guarding Orrim’s Head. Few people know how tradition got started, but even the oldest elf remembers going through it. Members of the ten settling families who fail to complete their Watch may never join the Council of Tens.
